Q: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee drive side auto lock does not respond to remote?
2 part question
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee drivers side front & back locks do not always respond to the remote.
Drivers side front & sometimes back interior lock does not lock when pressed
Thank you
A: Not an uncommon problem. The most common reason is a bad actuator. Rather expensive to repair. A good mechanic with can pinpoint the problem with a computer diagnostic program.
Q: 1992 Jeep Cherokee Engine swap to a 1997 Grand Cherokee?
I own a 1992 jeep cherokee limited and i was wondering if the engine would fit into a 1997 jeep grand cherokee. they both have the i6 4.0l engine. and they both have the same distributor setup. what makes the difference? I consulted a junkyard on this question and all they said is that it fits from 1992-95 only. What is the major difference in these engines. Look identically the same. Is there anything you have to swap or will it just plain not work? thanks
A: A 1992 Cherokee is OBD1 emissions while the 1997 is an OBD2. With that I'm not sure of the other differences, but I'm sure that the intakes are probably different and the exhaust as well. You'll have a different computer mapping with the OBD2 and possibly more O2 sensors.
Q: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior Light Fuse?
Does anyone know where the interior light fuse is for a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the interior fuse panel? I didn't get an owner's manual when i bought it, and I don't know which fuse is which (like by number). Thanks
i want to disconnect the lights
i want to disable it b/c where i live you can get stopped for having it on. esp. if every light inside is on at night? yeah.
A: Have you changed the bulb? To find the fuse you might take it to the service manager at your dealer. For this they will not charge you. It is good pr. Ask for the service manager when you call. He will help.
Q: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Loosing Rev?
I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that has been running well and well maintained. However, on a recent long trip out on the country road, I experienced what maybe transmission issue. I was attempting to overtake another car. As I pushed down on the accelerator, the engine revved up from a cruising 2k rpm towards 3K, but then it suddenly drop as if it failed to engage the next gear. The car is left in a jerky motion as it attempted to rev past 3k rpm. Yet, if I accelerate on an open road without the sudden rev, it seems to click over to the next gear just fine. Although the accelerator pedal does feel alittle heavier than usual. When this jerky rev motion starts, I have to pull over and turn off the enginer and then it will be fine again. This only happens out on the open country road where I'm doing around 110km p/h and revving to overtake. No issue in city driving. Did I flood the engine in my haste or is the transmission playing up? Advanced thanks for thoughts.
I noticed that the problems happens when I run below half tank and (of the two times that it happened) at quarter tank mark. I thought it maybe a dirty fuel line?? I checked the engine bay, there is no sign of anything leaking and all liquids are well within operating limits. I'm hoping this is all that is. What would be the best thing to clean the fuel line? Can those high octane thing do the trick?
A: Sounds like it's starveing for gas. Change your fuel filter, and it should be fine.
Q: My 1997 jeep grand cherokee wont idle?
My 1997 jeep grand cherokee wont hold an idle it will crank but wont start unless i press on the gas and keep it running using the tac. ive changed the idle air sensor and the fuel filter but i dont know what to do now. does anybody have any ideas?
A: NO MAF ( mass air flow) this is a MAP (manifold absolute pressure ) termed "speed density" driven system, maybe the EGR valve is stuck open, or Idle air control is not responding. Get a scanner on it to read live data or pay for a diag. check, usually 1 hr labor will cover it if it has stored codes in memory.
Q: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts, but anytime gas is pressed it will idle down and die. What causes this?
It is a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8. It will start, and idle. If the gas is pushed it will die when it idles down sometimes. What will cause this and where can I get the parts. I was thinking that it may be the fuel pump, but do not want to spend $200 if there is something else I can check or repair. Oh, the vehicle has sat in a driveway for over a year while I was in Iraq with the Army. Please SOMEONE help me.
A: Check for weak spark on plugs
check for dirty air filter or stopped up air intake
sounds like spark is being flooded out
Also add some good gas to tank, gas may be bad
Q: Rear I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee Jeep! What I want to know is will a 1996 Grand Cherokee jeeps rear fit?
I need a rear for my Jeep ! I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee Jeep, and have found a 1996 Grand Cherokee Larado. Will it's rear fit my jeep?
A: there is a tag or number on the rear get that number give it to the junk yard because the gear ratio may be differint
Q: How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?
The heater core is leaking on the passenger side of the cabin. How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.
The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper.
A: Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.
Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.
Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!
Q: How many fuel filters are there on a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
My Jeep won't turn over. The starter cranks but the engine won't start. When I put the gas pedal to the floor, the engine roars to life, but when i take my foot off the gas, it dies. We think it's the fuel pump or the fuel filter (filters). I want to price the repair but I need to know the fuel filter count. Thx.
We did the check of the fuel pump like takari k said and gas came through.
A: There is just one in the tank attached to the fuel pump. You could only get the filter with the pump (i.e., as a complete assembly), at least that was the way it was a few years ago.
Prior to replacing the filter/pump, check the fuel pressure to the throttle body, replace pump/filter if pressure is low. If pressure is good, start checking other parts associated with the throttle body (i.e., idle air control, injectors, etc.)
Q: what kind sounds system should i put in a 1997 jeep grand cherokee?
my jeep doesn't have a very good sound system and i want to upgrade so please tell me what your choices would be.
A: Too many choices!
I would go to www.crutchfield.com put in vehicle details and start shopping.
Q: I need the layout of the air conditioning of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I have a 1997 Jeep GC Laredo 4x4 and my air conditioning doesn't work, tried pretty much everything on my own, does anybody have the skematics/layout of how the airconditioning works / the path or where it goes?>
A: the most common problem with AC in a Cherokee is the AC relay. It's located under the dashboard behind the glovebox. It's about $10.00 to replace. Remove the glovebox, and it's right in front of you. If it smells burnt, it's bad. I spent alot of money replacing compressors, and so forth, before a very honest mechanic at a Jeep dealer told me about the relay. Sure beats paying 3 or 4 hundred dollars for a compressor.
Q: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't go into 4 Low?
I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It has 4 wheel high all time, Neutral and 4 low gear on the transfer case. When i go to put the vehicle in 4 Low the lever goes in but as soon as i put the car in gear it does not engage and makes a loud vibrating noise, like almost grinding. It just doesn't go in to gear, normal 4 high mode works fine all the time, any suggestions on what might cause this?
A: The selector is out of adjustment most likely. If you have the "electric" selector it could be failing.
So you either need to take it to the shop and have the linkage adjusted right, or buy a manual to do it yourself.
Q: 1997 jeep grand cherokee seems to squeak on the top of the transmission right under shifter?
Always happens at (low speeds) over bumps or so you can hear and when backing out of drive way also if you get underneath and grab tranny and wiggle u hear it squeak ontop of tranny aswell???
A: You should take it to a mechanic.
Q: Value of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, It has a cracked block so I want to get rid of it. I put Dana 44 front and rear axels in it with 3.83 gears. It has new brakes, a rebuilt transfer case, the body is in good shape. I have put alot of energy into building it up over the past couple years. I am moving to Wyoming in the next month and I want to start over with a different Jeep when I get there. I would be greatly apperciated if anyone could help me.
Thanks
A: Sell it yourself. Make sure that the buyer knows about the cracked blocked so they know what they are getting into. Contact a mechanic or go onto www.kbb.com and put in the info to get a selling price. Also include an estimate on how much it would be to replace the block.
Q: How do you reset the 3000 mile alarm on a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
The Jeep is equipt with a Perform Service alert on the dash that tells the driver when it's time for an oil chage. I've rest the service alert in the past but now I don't remember how to do it. It's a used Jeep so I don't have the owners manual.
A: After the reminder stops beeping and the display goes back to the time and date screen:
1. Press the "Select" button once so it displays "Miles to Service"
2. Hold the "Reset" button down until the milage resets.
