Q: How many of the back seats on a 2008 Jeep commander have LATCH?
I want to be able to put an infant seat in the middle, middle seat.
A: Either check under the seat itself.
Call the dealer.
Or try this site. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
Q: How do I engage the 4-wheel drive on a 2008 Jeep Commander?
A friend is driving a rental. He has no owners manual. We're trying to figure out how to engage the 4WD. When he pulls the lever, an alert flashes "see your owners manual." Any ideas?
Also - do the lights come on automatically? Its going to get dark soon and he can't find the light switch. Thanks!
A: On most Jeep vehicles, you need to shift the transmission into neutral, while rolling at speeds up to 55, then pull the 4x4 lever to 4 Wheel High, then shift the tranny back into drive. That's it! Continue driving.
Do not use 4 Wheel Drive on paved roads that are dry. It will destroy it. Use only on loose dirt, gravel, mud, ice or snow only!
Now, if you want to use 4 Wheel Lo, you need to stop rolling, foot on brake, place tranny into neutral, pull 4x4 lever into 4 Wheel Lo and the put tranny back into drive and off you go!
Hope this has helped you out.
Now on the headlights, "Sorry" I don't know that one...
...but if you have the internet, just see if you can "Google" that one.
Best of luck to you,
Gordon.
Q: How many miles per gallon does a 2008 Jeep Commander Limited gets?
A: This are real mpg values (trust me)
3.7l v6 15mpg
4.7l 16-17mpg
5.7l hemi 16-17 even with multidisplacement
Q: im thinking about converting my 2008 jeep commander into a veggie car?
any suggestions? i dont know whether i should or not. It gets about 18 mpg and with these prices i cant afford that. i am only in highschool. Would making it run on veggetable waste hurt how an SUV runs? has anyone had their SUV turned into a veggie car? how much does it cost? how is it getting fuel from restaurants? how does it affect the way your car/SUV runs?
A: It won't work unless it's a diesel - which isn't clear in your question. Then the access to available veg oils on a regular basis will become the issue, after that, getting good quality ones you don't have to spend more money on to filter and clean up before using. Gettting a reliable source of oil that isn't already committed to some other owner, or a recycler, is the real issue. Most chain restaurants are already committed to a contract for pickup on demand - which the public can't always satisfy - and have little say in the matter.
The very few able to do this will dry up most sources pretty quickly in metro areas.
18mpg isn't bad for a Jeep - but face it, it's an aerodynamic disaster. The Commander isn't known as a lightweight either. Better fuel mileage will only come from cars weighing under 2500 pounds with engines under 3 liters, precisely what the American public has shunned for the last twenty years.
Q: what will i do to maintain & protect my vehicle's paint? it's a 2008 jeep commander. ?
A: Keep it clean. Keep it waxed. Keep it garaged or covered. Do not let deposits sit on the paint for ages. Touch up your scratches and chips.
Park it a bit further away to avoid parking lot dooritis.
Q: Is this a good deal for a Jeep Commander?
In my local newspaper they're advertising 2008 Jeep Commanders (new i think) for almost $11,000. And says the MSRP is $32,250. Is there a catch? I'm going to go down there today with my dad. This an employee discount and he retired from chrysler.
So is this a good deal? And about how much will it be altogether at the end With all the added cost?
Thanks
A: maybe it is 11k of the MSRP ... but you will find out more when you go there later! but 11k for a brand new jeep?? they should be flying off the lots at that price.. and that sure would jump start the economy !!
Q: Which SUV should I get? Mitsubishi Outlander or Jeep Commander?
I'm having trouble deciding which SUV I want to lease. I have narrowed it down to two very different choices, the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander or 2008 Jeep Commander.
Which one do you think is better looking/more expensive looking? I'm not going to beat around the bush, I want a nice looking SUV (well as nice looking as SUVs can be).
For the record I'm a 19 year old student. Gas mileage isn't an issue as well.
Thanks guys in advance, I appreciate your opinions...
A: don't lease a car it's like paying rent on an apt. instead of buying a house.
don't ever buy a Jeep, sure the CJ is king in the mud but all Jeeps have poor reliability records and break down more than other cars in this category.
Consumer Reports Overview
Highs: Powertrain, handling, reliability.
Lows: Ride, road noise, fit and finish, radio controls with optional navigation.
The Outlander is fairly competitive in its class. Its 220-hp, 3.0-liter V6 provides a lot of punch and is smooth and refined. A four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT is new for 2008 and works well. The V6 model features a slick six-speed automatic transmission. Handling is fairly agile, with restrained body lean and quick, well-weighted steering. It is also secure and capable at its handling limits, due in part to its standard electronic stability control. The ride is fairly stiff and road noise is pronounced. Interior fit and finish is a bit disappointing. The third-row seat is mainly meant for kids. First-year reliability has been outstanding.

Q: Is the Jeep Commander, the Best New Off-Road SUV for 2008?
A: The Jeep Wrangler is probably still your best bet for serious off-roading. However, the Commander is more than capable and can haul more people than the Wrangler. You can hop onto YouTube and look up numerous videos of Commanders doing impressive things. There are even videos of Jeeps rescuing the foreign wanna-be's (including the Toy-yoh-duh mentioned above) who wandered into more off-roading than they were designed for.
We plan on ordering an '08 Commander this summer to replace our Dodge Dakota, which is too light in the rear to go where we want to take it.
Q: Car lease?
I'm moving Arizona and I want to ship my LEASED CAR ( 2008 Jeep Commander) with me which is originally from Michigan
When my lease is do I have to return it to the Michigan Dealership or can I find a dealer in Arizona where I can return it to?
Thank you.
A: All you need do is contact the lease holder before lease end and ask them where they want the car dropped in your area. Typically a Jeep dealer.
Q: Whats the better SUV?
2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV
2008 GMC Yukon Denali XL
2008 Chevrolet Suburban
2004 Ford Excursion
2008 Ford Expedition King Ranch
2008 Hummer H2
2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4x4
2008 Nissan Pathfinder Armada
2008 Lexus LX570
2008 Dodge Durango
2008 Jeep Commander
A: Alot of these are the same thing.
The Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, and Chevy Suburban are the same cars. Same engines and size and shape and gas mileage. The Hummer H2 even has the same engine.
The Lexus and Toyota are the same. Same size, and engine. The Lexus is just more luxurious.
Do not get the Ford's, Jeep's, or Dodge's.
Do not get the Hummer H2.
Get one of the three triplets made by GM or the Toyota and Lexus.
Q: First Car?!?
I'm getting my first car. It needs to have good tracking and be safe in rough weather and off-road. I was looking at the 2009 Subaru Forrester or the 2008 Jeep Commander. Any suggestions?
A: Subaru all the way
don't ever buy a Jeep, very expensive to own, frequent repairs, poor reliability records
Jeep Commander:
Lows: Visibility, fuel economy, tight second- and third-row seats.
The Commander is essentially a stretched Grand Cherokee with cramped second- and third-row seats. The third row is better for children than for adults. Rear vision is severely compromised when the third-row seats are in use. Engines choices are a lackluster 3.7-liter V6 and two V8s: a 4.7-liter and the powerful but thirsty 5.7-liter Hemi, which moves this vehicle effortlessly. The 4.7-liter received updates and more power for 2008, and it suits the vehicle best. Handling is secure but not agile. The ride is absorbent but gets unsettled over undulations. Reliability has improved to average, but the Commander scores too low to be recommended.
Q: Which vehicle should I buy?
I drive a tiny 2000 Toyota Celica. I got it when I'm in my early 20's, its a sporty fun car. But now it's getting childish. I have a lot of stuff to haul. Big canvas paintings, furnitures, home improvement stuff that I buy...etc. I love the looks of the Nissan Frontier 4 door Crew Cab and Jeep Commander. Both have same poor gas mileage 16city 20hwy. Nissan has more horse power. Both cost about the same (Jeep a bit higher). Nissan is more rugged (plastic, cheep 80's knobs), Jeep is more luxurious (wood grain interior). My biggest thing is switching my 21city 24hwy Celica for a less gas mileage one. Should I hold off one more year until 2007 and wait for 2008 to see if theres any better Truck or SUV with better gas mileage out there? I know they are trying to make SUV AND trucks with better gas mileage since its the law now (so I heard). I don't know which one to get....I'm leaning towards Nissan Frontier.
A: You have to do a heck of a lot of miles before the gas mileage is really important. I do 25,000 miles a year and a hybrid isn't worth my while, especially when I consider the decreased utility.
I couldn't recomend the Jeep over the Nissan, I'd driven both brands in the long term and my experience has been that the Nissan is much better put together.
What about one of those Honda bread van things... but then their gas mileage is no better and they are useless in the winter, if that makes a difference to you.
Q: Dream Car?
What is your ultimate dream car?
You can choose more than one.
Just curious. Mine is a Jeep - Liberty or Commander 2007 or 2008
A: jeep liberty or commander. we are getting the same cars no matter what car it is.

A: Thats sounds awful cheap. It really depends on what the Commander is equiped with. Base model with no upgrades your still going to be looking at 24-28k. Worth checking out for sure, and if its true its not a good deal, its a GREAT deal!!
